Moscow Ballet hosting Nutcracker auditions for local dancers

Maressa's Spokane Dance will be hosting auditions for local dancers to join the Moscow Ballet when they stop in Spokane for a two night performance of their Great Russian Nutcracker at the Bing Crosby Theater in November.

The Moscow Ballet will select 60 dancers to grace the stage as Party Children, Mice, Snowflakes and Angels among other roles. Auditions for the two night performance in November will be held on September 19th at Maressa's Spokane Dance. Moscow Ballet's “Dance With Us” Audition Director, Natalia Miroshnyk, will visit the studio in October to rehearse and fine tune the student dancers.

“We really want to encourage any and all kids to come,” said Maressa Dirks, owner of the hosting studio. She adds that this is a great opportunity to work with a top ballet company as they don't often travel this far for performances.

All students between the ages of six and 16 who have at least one year of ballet experience are invited to the audition regardless of their home studio. Auditioners are asked to dress in ballet attire and may bring Pointe shoes. There is a $15 audition fee, and those dancers selected will also be asked to pay a $25 performance fee as well.

This Nutcracker performance is a separate show from the annual performance from the Spokane Symphony and State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara at The Fox.
