ATV Driver Tries to Escape Deputies, Air 1 and K9 | Crime
A Spokane Valley man tried to out ride Sheriff's Deputies, an Air 1 helicopter, and a K9 unit after officers tried to pull him over for speeding on his ATV.
Spokane Valley Police Department arrested a man that was speeding on his ATV on June 29th around 9:30 PM. Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Sergeant Dave Ellis observed an ATV travelling at a high rate of speed and trespassing on railroad property. As he started chasing the vehicle, he was assisted K9 Laslo and an Air 1 that happened to be flying by the area.
The subject, identified as 41-year-old Matthew T. Hynes, was caught in a garage in the 3100 block of East Indiana where he was hiding. After several announcements made informing Hynes he was under arrest, to exit the garage and give himself up, the subject resisted and forced the authorities to enter the property and arrest him.
After being read his rights, Hynes said he knew Air 1 was chasing him but didn’t stop because he didn’t think “it was that big of a deal”. He also stated he didn’t follow deputy’s commands because he was scared.
Hynes was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a felony charge of Eluding a Police Officer and misdemeanor charges of Driving While License Suspended 3rd, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing a Police Officer.
